The Darkness (ダークネス, Dākunesu) is the ultimate force, created by Apocalypse the Disaster, the one behind all evil in the Legend of the Avenge Landers series. It is depicted in many sorts of amorphous mass of dark, and onimous forms, such as: liquids, oozes, gas, shadows, smokes, or storm clouds.

Despite being an evil force, The Darkness and its sinister magic can be controlled as the Sacred Elements of the Ancients, known as Dark. Cypherus is the only known Avenge Lander to date so far to use The Darkness and combine its power with his own to become Nightmare Cypherus, eventually being able to control his power and using the dark magic to fight evil, but always runs the risk of being consumed by the darkness.
The Darkness isn't effective on its own. It must channel itself through the weak, and in some cases, the idiotic.

No one knows what The Darkness is or where it came from. Some have believe that one of the benevolent Ancients, named Mafelar, had once took his magical experiments with the Chaos Crystals too far and was responsible for letting The Darkness into their world. It played a role in wiping out Voodood's entire tribe when they marched to battle the evil force, but Voodood was the only survivor. When The Darkness attempted to corrupt the Core of Light, its influence nearly consumed King Warfang, and it was Celestia's timely spells that saved the purple dragon king from a horrible fate.
The Darkness also destroyed Boom Jet's hometown, but not before the Air Avenge Lander managed to save all of the inhabitants. It was also one of the storms the storm chicken, Free Ranger, encountered. He was about to boldly leap into The Darkness (as he does with other storms to spin inside them or ride lightning), but was stopped by the Time Keeper Master Eon just in time.
Elves who chose to be evil and embraced the effects of The Darkness are called Drows, but they retained their love for nature.
